Security Lights

Greeneville Energy Authority offers security lights for residential and commercial/industrial customers. If you are interested in having a security light installed, please call us at 423-636-6200. Below you will find the installation cost and monthly charges for a GEA owned security light.

Fixed Costs

These are one time charges that are required to install/modify the security light on your property.

Monthly Charges

These are the recurring monthly charges for a security light on your property.

Security Light Charge

The Security Light Charge is the monthly charge for a GLPS installed security light and will show up on your bill as the description of the type of security light you have. This covers the cost of electricity and maintenance of the light.

Device FCA

The Device FCA is determined by the Fuel Cost Adjustment set by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The amount of electricity used by a typical security light of each type is multiplied by the current FCA Charge to determine the Device FCA. To see the monthly FCA Rate visit the Residential Rates Page.

Access Charge

The Access Charge is a fixed monthly charge that partially offsets the cost of transformers, power lines, meters, service lines, emergency services, and billing processes that are required to provide each Customer with access to electric power service. These costs exist even if a Customer uses no power during the month.

Energy Charge

The Energy Charge is the cost of the electricity used to power everything in your home. Your individual electric meter measures your energy use in units called kilowatt-hours or kWh. For example, if you run a light bulb rated at 100 watts for ten hours, it would use 1,000 Watt-hours or one kilowatt-hour (1 kWh). It is calculated using the formula:

Energy Charge = Your Metered Usage x Energy Rate

FCA Charge

The FCA Charge (Fuel Cost Adjustment) is set by the Tennessee Valley Authority and refers to the cost of the fuel TVA uses to generate power (coal, natural gas, nuclear fuels, etc.) It may increase or decrease slightly based on TVA’s fuel costs. For more information on TVA’s Fuel Cost Adjustment visit TVA Monthly Fuel Costs. It is calculated using the formula:

FCA Charge = Your Metered Usage x FCA Rate

NOTE – Due to existing market conditions, TVA is projecting that the FCA charge will remain elevated at least through the Spring of 2023.

What is “DCRA?”

The Demand Cost Recovery Adjustment (DCRA) is an adjustment applicable to kWh usage based on the prior month’s wholesale power rates paid to TVA by GEA. The adjustment accounts for changes in peak demand charges which are impacted by weather and customer usage behaviors. Greeneville Energy Authority uses a load factor calculation to determine the applicable rate, which may be a charge or credit. The DCRA rate is applicable to residential (Rate 22) and small commercial (Rate 40) accounts for consumed energy (kWh). To minimize the impact, the maximum allowable DCRA is 0.5 cents per KWh ($5 per 1,000 KWh used).
